Gutters on an Arizona tile roof hang from the fascia board at the roof edge and never attach to the tile, and they typically cost about $8–$14 per linear foot installed. The job is routine, but tile sheds water fast and overshoots a poorly placed gutter, so height, pitch, and size decide whether the system works. Done right, it handles a monsoon cell without spilling over the front edge.
AZ Gutter Pros fits gutters to tile roofs and quotes the work in writing.
How gutters attach to a tile roof
The gutter is carried by the fascia, the board that runs along the roof edge, and by hidden hangers screwed into it. Hangers are typically spaced about two feet apart.
The tile sits above and behind the gutter. We set the gutter height and pitch so water leaving the tile lands in the channel and flows toward the downspouts.
What goes wrong on tile
Overshoot. Barrel and S-tile shed water fast, and the curved profile throws it outward. A gutter set too low or too far back lets a lot of that flow clear the front edge.
Soft fascia. On older tile homes, the fascia has often been dried and cracked by decades of sun. A gutter hung on a bad board pulls loose, so the board is checked first.
Broken tile. Tile is brittle and cracks under a ladder or a boot. We work from the fascia and avoid walking the roof.
Debris. Tile roofs shed grit, and palms and mesquite near the roofline add to it. Our gutter guards page covers options.
Sizing and profile
Many Valley tile roofs do better with a 6-inch gutter, since flow off tile is fast and heavy. A 5-inch works on smaller or lower-pitch roofs. The written estimate should state which size each run gets and why.
Color matters too. Color-matched aluminum that blends with fascia and trim is the usual choice, and it is also what most HOAs approve. For premium homes, copper is an option, and our material comparison covers when it fits.
What it costs
These are market ranges rather than quotes, and tile adds some complexity.
- Seamless aluminum, 5-inch: about $8–$14 per foot installed.
- 6-inch: usually a few dollars more per foot.
- Fascia repair: billed separately where needed.
- Copper: roughly $25–$45 per foot.
Our installation cost breakdown lists the other line items that move the price.
Where tile roofs are common
Tile is the default on a huge share of newer Valley homes. Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Queen Creek, and Laveen all have extensive tile, and Cave Creek and Carefree have custom homes with high-end tile profiles.
Older tile homes in Sun City West and Youngtown may have fascia that needs repair before gutters can go up.
What a good estimate leaves out
A good estimate does not place a gutter where the tile will overshoot it, and it does not hang a system on fascia that is going to fail. If a quote does not say how the gutter height is set relative to the tile edge, ask.
It also does not push 6-inch where 5-inch is enough. The estimate should explain the sizing in plain terms.
